5 Best Gyms in SoHo – New York

SoHo might be small, but one thing it definitely has is gyms and fitness studios with plenty of character. Due to that, there are a few niche studios competing with each other here! It took time to weigh up the best ones, but the final round-up is here – these are my five best gyms in SoHo.

The Best Gyms in SoHo are:

  • UFC GYM – Best MMA Gym & Group Fitness Classes
  • P.Volve – Best Boutique Fitness Class Studio for Women
  • Physique 57 – Best for Barre & General Fitness
  • Sui Yoga – Best Yoga Studio
  • Equinox SoHo – Best Fitness Club with Facilities

These all have lots to offer, so you’re going to want to know more! Save the Google searches, though, as I run through the benefits, drawbacks, membership prices below, along with who should join and who should avoid.

Does SoHo Have Good Gyms?

If you know SoHo, it’s all about designer stores and upscale bars. Despite that, there are a handful of really good gyms and boutique fitness studios in the area. Sure, they might be on the high-priced side, but hey – it’s SoHo.

How Did I Pick The Best Gyms In Soho?

1. Lifestyle

SoHo is one of New York’s top shopping destinations. It’s fancy, needless to say, with a lively, vibrant atmosphere. I picked the best gyms and fitness to reflect the SoHo lifestyle, targeting fast-paced cosmopolites not worried about price.

2. Classes

If you want to work out in SoHo, there’s a good chance you’re looking to get social. You’re in luck if that’s the case, as SoHo has no shortage of trendy boutique studios hosting regular group fitness classes – the best of which I’ve included below.

3. Facilities

For some people in SoHo, choosing a gym is not just about working out, but feeling a sense of luxury and exclusivity. With that in mind, I made sure to find the best gyms and boutique fitness studios that also offer premium facilities.

1. Gyms In Soho: 5 Best Options

If you’re looking for a gym where the energy doesn’t stop, this is it. UFC GYM SoHo boasts strength training machines and weights, cardio equipment, mixed martial arts classes, a bag room, an Octagon – you name it. Whether you’re into MMA or not, it simply has everything.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

You don’t have to be into MMA to go here. UFC GYM has group fitness classes (HIIT, cardio, cycling, dancing), in addition to MMA classes and, of course, an open gym where you can train strength, cardio, or both.

Classes are energizing yet open to beginners. And the complex itself is large and fully equipped with premium machines and equipment across different areas. For all training styles, there’s just so much here to satisfy everyone.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

It costs $99 a month – that’s it, giving you full access to the gym and any classes. A free trial is available by registering online.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

None! This is easily SoHo’s best gym, in my opinion, with a membership that delivers big on value.

Who Should Work Out Here?

People who are serious about working out and like to train various styles – alone or with others. If you’re a casual gym-goer or someone who won’t take advantage of the wide range of classes, you’d simply be better off at a cheaper gym, though.

2. P.Volve – Best Boutique Fitness Class Studio For Women

P.Volve SoHo NY
  • Website: https://www.pvolve.com/
  • Address: 415 West Broadway (Floor 2), New York
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 6:30am–8:30pm, Sat 7:30am–3pm, Sunday 8:30am–2pm

P.volve is one of NY’s best boutique studios specializing in dynamic fitness classes for women. Classes are focused on technique and categorized by strength, cardio, sculpting, stretching, and rehabilitation. In other words, P.evolve isn’t your average fitness class!

What Are The Gym Benefits?

This is a boutique studio with a unique purpose. It’s taken functional fitness to another level, providing dynamic classes that are all about intelligent, low-impact movements for improving strength, flexibility, mobility, balance, and general fitness on the whole.

For women, there’s nothing better in SoHo. You’ll feel stronger and more mobile with each class while feeling right at home at an inclusive, all-female club. The studio has a bright, welcoming glow, with expert class instructors who actively assist each participant.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Pick and choose 5 monthly classes for $125 a month on the Mini Burn Membership. The Unlimited Burn Membership is $280 a month for unlimited classes.

Drop-in classes are $36, or you can pay for 5 and 10-class packages for $165 and $315, respectively. Alternatively, try the free 7-day digital trial or enjoy your first three studio classes for $30.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

If I didn’t make it clear, P.volve is for women only – a drawback if, well, you’re not a woman.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Professional women looking to get serious about their fitness and body goals at NYC’s best female boutique fitness studio. For the guys out there, unfortunately you’ll have to look elsewhere!

3. Physique 57 – Best For Barre & General Fitness

Physique 57 SoHo NY
  • Website: https://physique57.com/
  • Address: 180 6th Ave, New York
  • Hours: Class-based
  • Price: $45-190 for class packages, $150-395 monthly, or $130-350 annually
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Available
  • Free trial: 7 days
  • Group fitness: Extensive

Barre is in and Physique 57 is second to none for the best barre classes in SoHo. This boutique studio welcomes all levels, offering online and in-person group classes for barre body sculpting, Pilates, HIIT, and core, which, like P.Volve, are aimed at women.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Physique 57 is a modern barre studio with a big community. Created for women by women, this boutique fitness club has all the right classes for toning, mobility, flexibility, and strength, with a strong focus on core and lower-body workouts for achieving that muscle-shaking barre pulse.

Classes include modern barre, Pilates, body sculpting, core, HIIT, dance, and recovery, as well as prenatal prep and postnatal recuperation. All classes—which are led by expert trainers—are engaging and involving, grounded in female empowerment.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

You’ve three options at Physique 57 and those are paying monthly, annually, or by the class. It goes without saying that monthly and annually works out cheaper in the long run.

Month-to-month memberships are $150 for 4 classes per month, $295 for 8 classes, or $395 for 12 classes. Annual memberships are $130 a month for 4 monthly classes, $240 for 8 classes, or $350 for 12 classes.

Don’t want to commit just yet? Purchase 1 class for $40, 3 classes for $45 (new members only deal), or 5 classes for $190.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

Aside from the cost of the classes, none.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Barre enthusiasts and beginners who also like doing Pilates, HIIT, and dance workouts. It’s also a great option if you enjoy large group classes.

Men are welcome here but can expect to be outnumbered. If you’re just interested in barre, however, paying the membership price might not be worth it.

4. Sui Yoga – Best Yoga Studio

Sui Yoga SoHo NY
  • Website: https://suiyoga.com/
  • Address: 180 6th Ave, New York
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 7am–7pm, Sat–Sun 8am–6pm
  • Price: $170-275 per month, or $30-260 single and bulk class packages
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Available
  • Free trial: None
  • Group fitness: Extensive

Natural light, plants, sound immersion, Sui Yoga is everything you want from a yoga studio. It’s independent, too, with a close-knit community due to it also being a café and event space.

That’s not to say it isn’t serious about yoga, though, as it offers the best yoga classes in SoHo with a heated twist.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Sui Yoga offers a range of unique yoga classes in an aesthetically designed studio kept to around 95 degrees Fahrenheit. By day, it’s flooded with light; by night, it’s ambiently lit – both setting the scene for yoga classes that are challenging yet rejuvenating.

I mentioned a “unique twist” and it’s because classes here incorporate infrared heat, conscious breathwork, sound bath, light therapy, and halotherapy. Due to this, Sui Yoga offers an experience just as much as it offers yoga.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

There are class packages and memberships at Sui Yoga. Single classes are $30, 5-class packages are $140, and 10-class packages are $260.

For newbies, the 1 Week Explorer Intro offers unlimited classes for 7 days priced at $50, which is a huge bargain.

Looking to become a member? You can choose between Essential and Global, each with three options: Monthly Auto-Renew, Monthly Flex, and Annual Auto-Renew. All of these give you unlimited class access.

The difference between Essential and Global is that Essential does not provide free mat and towel rentals, and you get one monthly guest pass as opposed to two.

Monthly Auto-Renew requires 3 months’ commitment; Monthly Flex has no commitment. As for Annual Auto-Renew, you’re committed for a year but it’s cheaper overall.

Membership prices are:

  • $170 for Essential Monthly Auto-Renew
  • $199 for Global Monthly Auto-Renew
  • $225 for Essential Monthly Flex
  • $275 for Global Monthly Flex
  • $1999 for Essential Annual Auto-Renew
  • $2299 for Global Annual Auto-Renew

Are There Any Drawbacks?

Memberships could be simpler, it has to be said. And even though yoga studios aren’t meant to be big, expect to have to book classes in advance to secure your spot. It’s also worth remembering that Sui Yoga is a hot yoga studio, which isn’t for everyone.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Hot yoga enthusiasts and others who like the idea of unique, authentic yoga classes and don’t mind the heat. If you also want to be part of a close-knit yoga community, you won’t find better than Sui Yoga. Can’t stand hot yoga? Then this studio isn’t for you, unfortunately.

5. Equinox SoHo – Best Fitness Club With Facilities

Equinox SoHo NY
  • Website: https://www.equinox.com/clubs/new-york/downtown/soho
  • Address: 69 Prince Street, New York
  • Hours: Mon–Thu 5:30am–10pm, Sat–Sun 8am–7pm
  • Price: $285 per month
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Not available
  • Free trial: 1 day
  • Group fitness: Extensive

Equinox Clubs are scattered all over NY. Equinox Club SoHo, however, simply stands a shoulder above other SoHo gyms when it comes to facilities.

If you want a luxury gym that also has a member lounge, juice bar, café, spa, laundry service, and multiple fitness studios, here it is.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Not familiar with Equinox Clubs? They’re all-purpose luxury fitness clubs. Think of them as “fitness resorts” where, in addition to a sleek fully-equipped gym, you get wellness facilities and perks, including sundecks, laundry service, and ultra-modern shower rooms.

So, the benefits of being a member are exclusive access to high-end cardio machines and strength training equipment, premium facilities to take advantage of, and a wide range of regular group fitness classes. Simply put, going here is a luxury experience.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Memberships are $285 a month. These come with 12 months’ commitment, but you do get access to more than 80 clubs across the US, which is a game-changer if you travel around.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

Equinox SoHo has a yoga studio, cycling studio, and Pilates studio, but lacks other club features such as an indoor pool, steam room, and sundeck. That said, don’t forget that memberships give you access to all other Equinox Clubs.

Who Should Work Out Here?

People who want a resort-style club for fitness and wellness with an exclusive feel. If you’re not bothered about exclusivity or luxury, however—or can’t see yourself using all the facilities—you’ll save money going elsewhere.
