Solace New York is a premium CrossFit and functional fitness gym. But despite its focus on CrossFit, it doesn’t offer regular classes, so ultimately it’s perfect if you know what you’re doing and want to train functional fitness in a fully equipped, state-of-the-art facility!
What Are The Gym Benefits?
Solace NY has all the tools for CrossFit and functional fitness training in a large, premium facility that’s open 24/7. That includes a full-size turfed area, pull up rigs, squat racks, weightlifting bars, platforms, and bumper plates (Rogue), cardio machines, plyo boxes, gymnastics rings, every kind of free weight – the list goes on.
A DrossFit (focused on form and technique over speed) group class is available every other day, so you can also improve your knowledge and even enjoy a small sense of community here. The memberships are simple too, offering no/short commitment and no extra fees.

You’ve got two options: $249 for 1 month or $219 month-to-month with 2 months of commitment – both do not include taxes.

Solace New York is a CrossFit gym at its core, but it’s not ideal for beginner CrossFitters as there are no beginner classes or foundation programs.
Who Should Work Out Here?
If you’re serious about CrossFit and functional fitness training and know what you’re doing, this is a state-of-the-art facility where you’ll feel right at home.
If you’re new to CrossFit and functional fitness, however (and don’t want to pay for personal training), you’ll be better off at a standard CrossFit gym that offers beginner classes.

NYSC has appeared a few times in my New York gym reviews – simply because it’s a great choice if you’re looking for an affordable fitness club experience. This one’s located in Murray Hill and there are four more nearby NY locations you can access as a member.
What Are The Gym Benefits?
NYSC Murray HIll has a fully equipped gym, large group fitness studio, and facilities that include overnight lockers, UXF training zone, and a sauna. All in all, it’s great for general fitness if you’re someone who likes gym workouts, classes, and sauna sessions.
And the classes are pretty diverse. You get up to 6 daily classes here, involving everything from yoga and Zumba to core and BodyPump. What’s more, the membership lets you access other NYSC clubs in New York, meaning more classes and more facilities to take advantage of.
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
It’s $74.99/mo (Passport membership), which has a $51.21 sign-up fee and $69.99 annual fee.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
Other NYSC clubs offer a $34.99/mo Neighborhood membership (single-club access), but it isn’t available here for some reason – a drawback if you’re not bothered about visiting other NYSC locations.

If you won’t visit other NYSC locations, however, the price might not be worth it. If you were hoping for a more luxurious fitness club, look at Equinox Park Avenue instead.

Tone House offers classes that are all about athletic conditioning (getting lean, fit, and strong, in other words), alongside recovery and nutrition services. That doesn’t mean members are pro athletes, but it is the place to go if you want to become like one!

There are up to 10 classes (strength/conditioning) a day here, separated into three tiers: all levels, intermediate, and advanced. You’ll be doing cardio, HIIT, and Olympic lifts “as a team”, so constant support and encouragement is an integral part of each class.
So think of it like F45 but with difficulty tiers and a high-end training facility. More perks here are the recovery services (sports massages, Normatec sessions) and nutrition programs, along with the fact that this upmarket boutique studio offers flexible class prices.
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
Firstly, there’s a Rookie Pass for first-timers, which gives you 2 classes for the price of 1 ($45).
After that, the non-membership options are $45 for 1 class, $210 for 5 classes, $400 for 10 classes, $740 for 20 classes, $1260 for 35 classes, and $1750 for 50 classes.
Membership options, on the other hand, are $550/mo for 15 classes per month, $640/mo for 20 classes per month, $725/mo for 25 classes per month, and $780/mo for 30 classes per month.
Recovery and Nutrition services are priced separately and include options like 1 sports massage for $100, 1 Normatec session for $20, an InBody assessment for $75, and single nutrition sessions for $175.

It’s expensive and it’s a boutique brand that definitely seems geared toward young, fit audiences. As a result, older people and people who are out of shape (are welcome but) might feel out of place.
Who Should Work Out Here?
If you like team-style functional fitness training and the idea of being part of an upmarket NY fitness studio, you’ll like it here. But if it seems too “exclusive” or the class prices are well out of your budget, I’d recommend Orangetheory Manhattan East instead.
5. Crunch Fitness E 34th St – Best Gym & Group Fitness Schedule

This isn’t your average Crunch gym. It’s a Signature Club, so it’s bigger, better-equipped, and kept to a higher standard than regular Crunch gyms. It’s more expensive, as a result, but it’s the full package if you’re after a variety of gym equipment, classes, and facilities.
What Are The Gym Benefits?
This is a big gym. It’s fully decked out with cardio and resistance machines, free weights, weightlifting equipment, and a functional fitness section (HIITZone). So it’s got what most Crunch gyms have, but the difference here is it’s better maintained and feels more premium.
As a Crunch Signature Club, it also boasts more group classes and facilities. There are up to 20 daily classes here (every class you can think of), alongside full-service locker rooms, a sauna, steam room, and sun deck. Personal and small group training are also available!
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
There are four membership options here: One Crunch (single club) and All Crunch (access all Crunch gyms), billed either monthly or annually. Crunch’s billing is confusing and they slap on extra fees, so I’ll break the options down.
One Crunch monthly is $132/mo (includes $13.17 prorated annual fee), with a $150 enrollment fee and $49.95 processing fee.
One Crunch annual is $1320 paid upfront, with a $15 enrollment fee, $49.95 processing fee, and $79 annual fee.
All Crunch monthly is $149/mo (includes $13.17 prorated annual fee), with a $150 enrollment fee and $49.95 processing fee.

Are There Any Drawbacks?
You get hit by three types of fees here (enrollment fee, processing fee, and annual fee). The monthly memberships require that you pay the first and last dues upfront as well. So it’s expensive to sign up – no matter what membership you choose.
Since this is a Signature Crunch gym in a popular location, you can also expect it to get busy.
Who Should Work Out Here?
Need a big gym with a variety of equipment for different training styles? Then check out Crunch E 34th St, especially if you also want extensive group classes plus access to a sauna and steam room.
But if you want a simple, budget-friendly gym (with fewer fees), I’d recommend Blink Fitness Murray Hill instead!
