Clinton unfortunately doesn’t have many gyms – being a small historic village. But if you’re heading to Clinton, you’re not out of luck! I’ve found and reviewed the best gyms in the area for you to consider today.
The Best Gyms In Clinton Are:
- Yoga Shala Clinton – Best For Yoga & Wellness
- Planet Fitness New Hartford – Best Budget Gym
- Mohawk Valley Wellness – Best For CrossFit & Group Fitness
- The Fitness Mill – Best Non-Commercial Gym
- Geared Strength Barbell Club – Best Strength Training Gym & Community
One of these is a chic local studio and another is a seriously old-school gym with character – so you’re going to want to check them out. Below I list the benefits, drawbacks, and prices, plus who should join and who shouldn’t!
Does Clinton Have Good Gyms?
Clinton NY doesn’t have any gyms. But the good news is that nearby locations in Oneida County, such as New Hartford, Utica, Yorkville, Whitesboro, and Marcy, have good gyms to reach within a 10 to 15-minute drive from Clinton.
Gyms In Clinton: 5 Best Options
1. Yoga Shala – Best For Yoga & Wellness

- Website: https://www.yogashalaclinton.com/
- Address: 7 Kirkland Ave, Clinton, NY
- Hours: Tuesday–Sunday class schedule
- Price: $150/mo for unlimited classes, $20-25 per class
- Sign up fees: None
- No lock-in contracts: Available
- Free trial: None
- Group fitness: Limited
Yoga Shala is the only fitness studio in Clinton. But that’s not the reason it’s on this list! In fact, this yoga studio is one I recommend for its inclusive weekly classes, specialty classes for men and women, and regular workshop events with guest instructors.
What Are The Gym Benefits?
Yoga Shala offers up to two daily classes from Tuesday to Sunday, open to all levels. And with specialty classes that include Yoga for Men and Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga, plus monthly workshops, events, and masterclasses, there’s something for everyone at this local studio.
That’s without mentioning the studio itself, which is a bright, inviting space that even boasts warm ambient lighting for evening classes. It’s all run by Man Hue Duong, a certified yogi with hundreds of hours of training, so you also know you’re learning from one of the best.
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
It’s $150/mo for unlimited classes. Per class, it’s $20 for the regular weekly classes and $25 for specialty classes.
Private sessions are also available, including everything from 1-on-1 classes to event bookings.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
There are no classes on Mondays. People with busy schedules might also find it hard to attend the 2 daily classes (1 on Saturdays), held at 10:30am, 12pm, and 5:30pm only.
Who Should Work Out Here?
Yoga enthusiasts, prenatal and postnatal women, and anyone looking to increase their mobility. I’d also recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their wellness and mental health. If you need class flexibility, however, you might not find Yoga Shala’s schedule ideal.
2. Planet Fitness New Hartford – Best Budget Gym

- Address: 4505 Commercial Drive, New Hartford, NY
- Hours: Monday–Thursday 24 hours, Friday 12am–9pm, Saturday–Sunday 7am–7pm
- Price: $10/mo for Classic membership, $24.99/mo for PF Black Card
- Sign up fees: $59 for Classic membership
- No lock-in contracts: Available
- Free trial: 1 day
- Group fitness: None
Planet Fitness is the cheapest gym around. It’s ideal for beginners and casuals, for that reason, offering all the basics for cardio and strength training. This one’s less than a 10-minute drive from Clinton, and also offers various facilities.
What Are The Gym Benefits?
The biggest benefit is that it’s cheap. All kinds of people go here too, so there’s no judgment if you’re just starting. There are plenty of cardio and resistance machines at this location, plus facilities that include tanning beds, hydro beds, massage chairs, and a spa.
It’s open 24 hours four days a week and you can check how crowded the gym is via the website or app. With the PF Black Card membership, you can also visit other Planet Fitness gyms, and there’s a handful of them around Oneida County!
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
Classic and PF Black Card are the two available memberships here. The difference? Classic is single-club access without use of facilities. PF Black Card, however, gives you multi-club access, use of facilities, and guest perks.
Classic is $10/mo with a 12-month contract and $59 sign-up fee. PF Black Card is $24.99/mo with no contract and no sign-up fee.
Both memberships have a $39 annual fee.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
Classic membership comes with a 12-month contract – not ideal if you’re not yet 100% committed. You can opt for the no-contract PF Black Card, but you’ll want to use the facilities or visit other locations to get your money’s worth.
Planet Fitness gyms also have a reputation for being unorganized and poorly maintained.
Who Should Work Out Here?
Planet Fitness is good if you’re a newbie or casual gym user – especially if your budget is tight. But if you don’t like the sound of inferior equipment, unracked weights, or waiting to use machines, you might want to consider other gyms first!
3. Mohawk Valley Wellness – Best For CrossFit & Group Fitness

- Website: https://mohawkvalleywellness.com/
- Address: 9647 River Rd, Marcy, NY
- Hours: Monday–Saturday class schedule
- Price: $165/mo for unlimited classes or $135/mo for 3 classes per week
- Sign up fees: None
- No lock-in contracts: Available
- Free trial: 1 free workout
- Group fitness: Extensive
MV Wellness (a 15-minute drive from Clinton) is a CrossFit gym. But even if you’re not into CrossFit, there are non-CrossFit group classes here too. And with up to 13 daily classes from Monday to Saturday, there are plenty of group workouts to join!
What Are The Gym Benefits?
MV Wellness offers back-to-back morning to evening classes 6 days a week. These include CrossFit, MV Fitness (no barbell workouts with minimal equipment), MV Performance (athlete conditioning), and even Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
So there’s something for all abilities and a non-stop community atmosphere. The coaches are super supportive too, so the personal training is another thing worth checking out. And for a CrossFit gym, the rates are also surprisingly affordable!
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
Platinum membership is $165/mo, giving you unlimited classes. Motivated membership is $135/mo, letting you join 3 classes per week. So it’s nice and simple, catering to all commitment levels.
For semi-private training, it’s $57.82/mo for 1 session, $462.56/mo for 2 weekly sessions, and $693.84 for 3 weekly sessions. Personal training, on the other hand, is $76.99/mo for 1 session, $615.92/mo for 2 weekly sessions, and $923.88 for 3 weekly sessions.
Private training and personal training require you to commit for 3 months.
But before signing up for anything, you can also bag one free workout (via their website).
Drop-ins are $15 each!
Are There Any Drawbacks?
MV Wellness doesn’t seem to offer open gym access – a drawback if you want to walk in and do your own workout.
Who Should Work Out Here?
CrossFitters and anyone who’s looking for group fitness classes with a family-like sense of community. The affordable rates also make it ideal if you find most CrossFit gyms expensive! If you want open gym access, however, MV Wellness isn’t the best choice.
4. Upstate Empire Fitness – Best Non-Commercial Gym

- Website: https://www.upstateempirefit.com/
- Address: 2407 Champlin Ave, Utica, NY
- Hours: 24 hours
- Price: Various membership prices (see below)
- Sign up fees: $40 for 12 monthly payment memberships
- No lock-in contracts: Available
- Free trial: None
- Group fitness: Limited
If the gym’s your second home, here’s my pick for the best gym near Clinton (a 13-minute drive away). The Fitness Mill Utica deserves a special mention, but in my opinion Upstate Empire Fitness is the better choice for its simpler memberships and 24/7 access!
What Are The Gym Benefits?
Upstate Empire Fitness is a 15,000-square-foot gym with top-notch machines and equipment for cardio and all kinds of strength training: powerlifting, weightlifting – even Strongman (yep, it has atlas stones). You also get a juice bar, sauna, and tanning service.
Another great feature is the large group training studio, which hosts Spin, Zumba, and BodyPump, totaling 11 classes per week. And since this place is independently run, the customer service and personal training are simply better than what you’d get at a chain gym!
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
There are two memberships: Basic, which gives you gym, sauna, and locker access, and Premium, which throws unlimited tanning, childcare, and group classes on top.
For Basic, you can pay $34.99/mo for 12 months (contract), 3 months in full for $165, or 12 months in full for $359.
For Premium, you can pay $39.99/mo for 12 months (contract), 3 months in full for $185, or 12 months in full for $399.
Don’t want to commit? It’s $59.99 for one month of Basic or $64.99 for one month of Premium.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
Memberships are priced to try to lock you in and there’s no drop-in rate or free trial. And although this gym offers classes, the schedule is limited (1-3 classes per day, none on Friday).
Who Should Work Out Here?
Gym regulars who shudder at going to a chain gym. It’s also a good choice for gym-goers who like group classes and facilities. But if you can’t or don’t want to commit, you might find the one-month rates expensive.
5. Geared Strength Barbell Club – Best Strength Training Gym & Community

- Address: 9593 River Rd, Marcy, NY
- Hours: 24 hours
- Price: N/A
- Sign up fees: N/A
- No lock-in contracts: Available
- Free trial: None
- Group fitness: None
Geared Strength Barbell Club is a neighborhood gym that’s so old-school it doesn’t have a website. But despite that, it brags a huge social media following and a real family-like community that’s all about two things: strength training and raw dedication!
What Are The Gym Benefits?
You’ll feel right at home here if you’re a powerlifter, Olympic weightlifter, or bodybuilder. It boasts the best (Rogue) weightlifting equipment and a full variety of resistance machines, complete with bowls of chalk waiting at the ready. Plus, it’s open 24/7.
On top of that, the sense of community is second to none. The personal trainers are super supportive and even share members’ successes on their Instagram (with permission). And you don’t have to lift like Ronnie Coleman to go here; newbies are 100% welcome!
What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?
Aside from being an old-school neighborhood gym, Geared Strength is also a private members’ club – so memberships and rates are provided on request or in person.
Are There Any Drawbacks?
Not knowing the memberships and prices. But as a local gym, the good news is you can expect clear rates with no contracts or fees. Other than that, some might find this gym small or crowded.
Who Should Work Out Here?
Passionate about strength training or want to start? This is the gym for you, especially if you’re also looking for a great gym atmosphere and community. The only reason to avoid is if you don’t like small “social” gyms – as it’s also a club that’s like a family!
