Does Bloomfield Have Good Gyms?

Bloomfield NY doesn’t have any gyms, being a small village. Despite that, there’s a local yoga studio in Bloomfield (Grounded by Yoga), with a good choice of gyms to find nearby in Victor and Canandaigua, including Planet Fitness.

Gyms In Bloomfield: 5 Best Options

There’s always a Planet Fitness nearby! And this one’s a 15-minute drive from Bloomfield. In fact, there’s also a Planet Fitness gym in Canandaigua. But I’ve chosen to review Planet Fitness Victor as it’s bigger and better equipped with 24-hour access.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

You’ll have heard of Planet Fitness. But if you’re not familiar with what it offers, it’s a no-judgment gym for newbies and casual gym-goers. It’s the cheapest gym around, providing all the essential machines and equipment for losing weight and building muscle.

So it’s a good place to start. And as for Planet Fitness Victor, it’s large with ample machines, massage chairs, full-service locker rooms, and 24-hour access 4 days a week. The memberships are simple as well, with the option to access any Planet Fitness gym.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Classic membership is $10/mo. It gives you access to Planet Fitness Victor but comes with a $59 sign-up fee and 12-month commitment.

PF Black Card is $24.99/mo. There’s no sign-up fee or commitment on this membership (it’s easier and cheaper to cancel), and you get access to all Planet Fitness gyms and facilities (massage and tanning), with the ability to bring a guest.

Both memberships have a $39 annual fee.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

Generally, Planet Fitness gyms have a reputation for being unorganized and poorly maintained.

Who Should Work Out Here?

It’s a good budget-friendly choice if you’re new to the gym or casual about working out. But if you want better-than-average equipment and don’t like the sound of unorganized weights or extra busy peak periods, you might want to consider other options first.

Orangetheory Victor – Best For Group Fitness & Weight Loss

Orangetheory Victor - Best For Group Fitness & Weight Loss
  • Address: 400 Commerce Dr. Suite 900, Victor, NY
  • Hours: Monday–Sunday class schedule
  • Price: $59, $99, and $159 monthly memberships
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Available
  • Free trial: 1 free class
  • Group fitness: Extensive

Yep, Victor also has an Orangetheory. This fitness studio franchise offers group HIIT classes focused on weight loss and toning, with a non-stop daily class schedule and flexible membership options for all commitment levels.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Don’t enjoy gym workouts? Orangetheory classes are exciting and high in energy, involving bodyweight exercises, free weight exercises, and cardio machines. They last 1 hour, performed in a large group with an instructor who will motivate you to give it your best.

The benefit is fast weight loss, as the workouts are designed to burn as many calories as possible. It’s challenging, as a result, but the classes are open to all fitness levels since each exercise can be performed at a different intensity!

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Interested? There are three memberships here:

Orange Basic gives you 4 monthly classes for $59/mo. Orange Elite gives you 8 monthly classes for $99/mo. And Orange Premier gives you unlimited classes for $159/mo. Extra classes on Orange Basic and Orange Elite are purchasable for a reduced price.

All memberships can be canceled at any time.

Class packages are also available: 10 classes for $199, 20 classes for $359, and 30 classes for $499.

But before paying any of that, first-timers have the first class for free.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

If you’ve never worked out before, these classes can be overwhelming at first. Some members also find the music too loud!

Another drawback is that you’ll need to pay for the top membership (unlimited classes) if you really want the most effective weight loss results.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Orangetheory is well worth trying if you want to lose weight and like the sound of high-energy group classes. But if you don’t think you’re ready for intense group workouts just yet, you might want to opt for something easier first.

YMCA Canandaigua – Best Pool Facilities & Group Classes

YMCA Canandaigua - Best Pool Facilities & Group Classes

  • Price: Memberships from $44/mo to $67.25/mo (see below)
  • Sign up fees: $50
  • No lock-in contracts: Available
  • Free trial: None
  • Group fitness: Extensive

Canandaigua Family YMCA is just over a 10-minute drive from Bloomfield. And if you’re looking for pool facilities, group classes, and gym equipment, it’s the full package. Membership provides access to all three with reduced rates for young adults and seniors.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

If you want gym access and group classes, YMCA Canandaigua offers both. The gym is equipped with all the basics (cardio and resistance machines, weights, racks, benches) and hosts regular classes that include bootcamp, aquafit, cycle, power, HIIT, and pickleball.

So yep, there’s even a multi-purpose sports court here in addition to a full-size lap pool. The pool is also used for family swims, which is a bonus if you have kids. And if you qualify as a young adult, senior, or individual parent, you can join for a reduced monthly rate.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

YMCA offers membership prices for juniors, young adults, adults, seniors, couples, individual parents, and families. But to keep it simple, I’ll list the main prices to give you an idea of what to expect.

For adults (age 27-54), it’s $67.25/mo for YMCA Canandaigua – or $74/mo to access all YMCA clubs.

For seniors (age 55 and up), it’s $55/mo for YMCA Canandaigua – or $71/mo to access all YMCA clubs.

For young adults (age 19-26), it’s $44/mo for YMCA Canandaigua – or $50/mo to access all YMCA clubs.

All of these have a $50 sign-up fee. To cancel, send a 30-day written notice to the club.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

The club hours are all over the place, with early closing times on Thursdays and weekends. The sign-up fee isn’t great either (but this is standard for all YMCA clubs).

Who Should Work Out Here?

Want to swim, work out in the gym, and join group classes? Then YMCA is an easy decision. If you won’t use all the facilities, though, you’ll save money (and avoid the sign-up fee) by going somewhere else.

Victor CrossFit – Best CrossFit Gym & Membership Rates

Victor CrossFit - Best CrossFit Gym & Membership Rates
  • Address: 61 School Street, Victor, NY
  • Hours: Sunday–Friday 9am–10pm, Saturday 10am–7pm
  • Price: $110/mo for 3 classes per week or $130/mo for unlimited classes
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Available
  • Free trial: Free consultation
  • Group fitness: Extensive

Victor CrossFit is the best option in the area if you’re interested in CrossFit. It’s an old-school-looking facility with all the CrossFit essentials, offering diverse programs and some of the cheapest membership rates I’ve seen for a CrossFit gym.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

First of all, Victor CrossFit is fully equipped. It’s got wall-to-wall mats, pull up rigs, rowing machines, Rogue plates, med balls, kettlebells, gymnastic rings – you name it. And with programs that include Tabata HIIT and Olympic lifting, workouts never get boring.

Like most CrossFit gyms, the workouts are super inclusive. You’ll feel involved and supported, with members and coaches who will start to feel like a family. The best thing? Victor CrossFit is easily one of the cheapest CrossFit gyms I’ve seen.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Some CrossFit gyms have endless membership options (a good and bad thing) but Victor CrossFit keeps it simple: it’s $110/mo for 3 classes per week or $130/mo for unlimited classes.

And since CrossFit gyms charge around $200 per month, you’re getting a bargain here.

Military and first responders also get discounted rates (let them know before signing up).

Are There Any Drawbacks?

The class schedule gives you 2 to 3 classes on weekdays (1 on Saturday, none on Sunday), held in the morning and evening. So there are no early/mid-afternoon classes. And despite that, there doesn’t seem to be open gym access either.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Anyone who’s interested in CrossFit and community group workouts. If you want to try CrossFit on a budget, this is also your chance! But if you want open gym access and more class availability, Victor CrossFit isn’t right for you.

Grounded By Yoga – Best For Yoga & Mental Wellness

Grounded By Yoga - Best For Yoga & Mental Wellness
  • Address: Lotus Grove Center, 1 Wellness Way, Bloomfield, NY AND Billiards Square, 514 South Main Street, Canandaigua, NY
  • Hours: Monday–Sunday class schedule
  • Price: $16 for drop-in, $110-130 for 10 class packs, $299 for 3 months of unlimited classes, and $89/mo for unlimited classes with a one-year contract
  • Sign up fees: None

  • Free trial: None
  • Group fitness: Limited

Here it is: the only gym in Bloomfield. It’s a yoga studio, technically, but it deserves a spot on this list for its stunning yoga spaces and convenient drop-in classes. Yep, no pre-registration is required, and it even boasts a second local studio in Canandaigua.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Grounded by Yoga specializes in hatha, raja, jnana, and kundalini yoga, with classes that include yin yoga, meditative yoga (pranayama), posture-focused yoga, prenatal yoga, trauma-sensitive yoga, post-incarceration yoga – and even tai chi.

You don’t have to pre-book classes (just turn up), and with both locations there are up to 5 classes per day, all through the week. What’s more, the studios are stunning: they’re large with an earthy color theme, and the Bloomfield studio also has a Peace & Waterfall Garden!

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

It’s $16 for drop-in classes. 10-class packs are $110 with 3 months expiry or $130 with 12 months expiry.

As for memberships, it’s $299 for 3 months of unlimited classes or $89/mo for unlimited classes (Yogi-Life membership) on a 1-year contract.

But if you’re new, you can have 3 classes for $25 or 1 month of classes (1 a day limit) for $45.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

There are approximately 8-10 people per class and I assume there’s a class limit – so although drop-ins are allowed, it’s possible you could miss out if you don’t pre-book.

Who Should Work Out Here?

If you like yoga or are interested in the benefits of yoga—better posture, increased mobility and flexibility, improved mental health—then Grounded by Yoga is a fit. But if your goal is weight loss or building muscle, then you’d be better off at a gym or fitness studio.
