5 Best Gyms In Astoria – New York

I expected Astoria to have some awesome gyms, but I didn’t expect this many! It wasn’t easy, as a result, but I managed to narrow down the five best Astoria gyms worth talking about. Astoria might be small, but these gyms are definitely big in what they have to offer.

The Best Gyms in Astoria are:

  • Rock Fitness – Best Gym Overall
  • Sage Fitness – Best for Group Fitness & Weight Loss Classes
  • Club Fitness NY – Best Fitness Club & Facilities
  • Fitness Lounge – Best for Personal Training
  • CrossFit Queens – Best for Functional Fitness & Community

If you’ve read my other gym reviews, you know the drill by now – don’t sign up until you’ve checked out the benefits, drawbacks, and membership prices, as well as who should join and who should avoid. It’s all laid out below to save you the time.

Does Astoria Have Good Gyms?

5 Best Gyms in Astoria - New York

Astoria is only a small area but it boasts a diverse gym choice that honestly doesn’t leave much to be desired. From commercial gyms to boutique studios and luxury fitness centers, Astoria has plenty to offer.

How Did I Pick The Best Gyms In Astoria?

1. Specialty

Most fitness studios (and some gyms) have a specialty, whether it’s group classes, 1-on-1 training, or a specific training program.

Specialties are important as they can sometimes be the reason someone is inspired to work out. For that reason, I made sure to find the best specialty gyms and fitness studios in the area.

2. Trendiness & Appeal

For some people, gyms are not just places to work out, but places where they want to be seen. Astoria is known for its trendy bars, restaurants, and coffee shops, so it made sense to hunt down Astoria’s trendiest gyms.

3. Premium Appeal

Due to its laid-back, yet urban, vibe, Astoria is popular among young professionals. That might include you, so I set out to find the best gyms in Astoria that are modern and clean, with professional equipment, expert trainers, or exciting group fitness classes.

Gyms In Astoria: 5 Best Options

1. Rock Fitness – Best Gym Overall

Rock Fitness Astoria NY
  • Website: https://rock-gyms.com/
  • Address: 22-06 31st Street, Astoria
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 5am–11pm, Sat 7am–9pm, Sun 7am–8pm
  • Price: From $59 per month
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Not known
  • Free trial: None
  • Group fitness: Limited

This isn’t a climbing gym if that’s what you’re thinking. Rock Fitness is actually a state-of-the-art gym boasting superb equipment, a circuit training floor, and a great choice of group fitness classes situated just a short walk away from Astoria Park.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Rock Fitness means business – it’s large with a premium feel, boasting sleek black equipment that’s new-looking, well spread out, and ready to serve all needs, whether that’s cardio sessions or back-to-back strength supersets.

It has a kickboxing studio and circuit training floor, with a diverse choice of classes that include boxing, HIIT, Zumba, yoga, and functional fitness (most of these held once a week). Rock Gym also offers private and semi-private personal training if you need help getting started.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Membership packages start from $59. But for more information, you have to drop in or contact them, unfortunately.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

I’m never a fan of gyms that keep their prices on the down-low – simply because you never know what you’re getting into. Still, for the base price of $59 per month, I’d say Rock Fitness Gym offers your money’s worth.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Gym enthusiasts who don’t mind paying a little more for a premium gym with top-notch equipment and a great atmosphere. If you simply don’t like hidden membership prices or want more frequent group fitness classes, however, you might want to look elsewhere.

2. Sage Fitness – Best For Group Fitness & Weight Loss Classes

Sage Fitness Astoria NY
  • Website: https://www.sagefitnessastoria.com/
  • Address: 23-17 31st Street
  • Hours: Class-based
  • Price: 1 class $35, 5 classes $150, 10 classes for $250, 1 month unlimited classes for $209, or $199 monthly for unlimited class membership
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: Available
  • Free trial: 1 free class
  • Group fitness: Extensive

If you love group fitness classes, it doesn’t get better than Sage Fitness. Lose weight and get fit indoors or outdoors, as Sage Fitness offers studio and outdoor park classes with a choice that includes boxing, cardio, strength, HIIT, athletics, and functional fitness.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Sage Fitness offers the best group fitness classes in Astoria, in my opinion. Classes take place daily in the studio and in parks around the neighborhood, with a choice of exercise styles that are perfect for all abilities, plus people who like to mix it up.

What’s more, Sage Fitness also offers personal training, plus an open gym (although open gyms hours are limited). Class prices are hard to argue with as well, offering drop in classes, packages, and memberships for all commitment levels.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

There’s only one membership plan at Sage Fitness, which is $199 per month for unlimited classes. If you plan on attending as many classes as possible, there’s plenty of value here. But you can also have a month of unlimited classes with no commitment for $209.

Other than that, drop-in classes are $35, 5-class packages are $150, and 10-class packages are $250. You can have one free class if you’re new, which you’re also free to choose!

Are There Any Drawbacks?

If you like the option of an open gym, that’s the only drawback here, since sessions are only available for 2 or 3 hours, three or four times a week.

Who Should Work Out Here?

People who love group fitness classes and beginners who want to lose weight and get fitter. If you like working out outdoors, that’s another good reason to sign up here. If you don’t fit under the above, however, Sage Fitness just isn’t for you, unfortunately.

3. Club Fitness NY – Best Fitness Club & Facilities

Club Fitness NY
  • Website: http://www.clubfitnessny.com/
  • Address: 31-11 Broadway, Queens

  • Price: $69+ a month
  • Sign up fees: $29
  • No lock-in contracts: Not available
  • Free trial: 1 day
  • Group fitness: Extensive

I listed Club Fitness NY in my review of the “5 Best Gyms in Queens”, but not because it’s been voted Queens’ best gym nine times.

As a fitness club, Club Fitness NY just has it all: a fully equipped gym, resort-style facilities, diverse group fitness classes, and host of exclusive perks for members.

What Are The Gym Benefits?

Premium facilities and exclusivity is what’s on offer here. Club Fitness NY has everything needed for fitness enthusiasts who also like to take care of their health and wellness, while feeling part of an exclusive club.

The gym is large with state-of-the-art equipment. Personal training is available, along with daily group fitness classes held in individual studios.

The facilities and perks are more benefits here, and include a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, salon spa, free parking, showers, and men’s and women’s lounge areas.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Club Fitness NY doesn’t want to tell you its prices unless you drop in or contact them. But prices start from $69 a month. Memberships also lock you in for one year, costing $150 if you want to cancel early.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

You have to commit to Club Fitness NY for one year. And while not a drawback for everyone, Club Fitness NY has a long list of etiquette policies (it’s a members club, after all).

Who Should Work Out Here?

Health, wellness, and fitness enthusiasts who don’t just want a place to work out but somewhere to kick back and reap the benefits of an exclusive members club. If you can’t commit long-term or won’t take advantage of all the perks and facilities, then skip this one.

4. Fitness Lounge – Best For Personal Training

  • Website: https://www.fitnessloungenyc.com/
  • Address: 30-77 Steinway Street, Astoria
  • Hours: Mon–Sun 6am–10pm
  • Price: Based on individual clients

Simply put, if you need help getting started or just want to achieve your goals fast and effectively, Fitness Lounge is ready to help. All personal training is provided in their private studio, which is fully equipped for pretty much every training style.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Fitness Lounge states outright that it doesn’t offer memberships. There are no set prices either. That’s a good thing, though, as their personal trainers work with you (over a free consultation) to provide a tailored program that you can afford.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

None – as a personal training studio, Fitness Lounge checks all the boxes and is upfront with what it offers!

Who Should Work Out Here?

People of all ages and abilities who want any kind of personal training – weight loss, strength training, or injury rehabilitation. Needless to say, if you’re looking for an open gym or group fitness classes to join, this isn’t the place for you.

5. CrossFit Queens – Best For Functional Fitness & Community

CrossFit Queens Astoria NY
  • Website: https://crossfitqueensny.com/
  • Address: 2550 31st Street, Queens
  • Hours: Mon–Fri 5:30am–8:30pm, Sat–Sun 9am–12pm
  • Price: Based on individual clients
  • Sign up fees: None
  • No lock-in contracts: N/A
  • Free trial: 1-week trial (5 classes)
  • Group fitness: Extensive

CrossFit Queens offers high-energy functional fitness classes and, like most CrossFit gyms, an exciting community that comes with it. It’s Astoria’s premier CrossFit gym, one that’s worth checking out if your goal is to get strong and fit in a short amount of time!

What Are The Gym Benefits?

For CrossFit, this gym is the real deal: it has pull-up bars, Olympic weights, box jumps, gymnastic rings – you name it.

And if you don’t know about CrossFit, it’s all about functional movements and high reps – ideal if you don’t mind a challenge and are looking to learn skills while building muscle and losing fat.

Classes and personal training sessions are available at CrossFit Queens, taught by a team of expert coaches. So, if you want exciting workouts and like to feel part of a community, you’ll feel right at home here.

What Do You Need To Know Before Purchasing A Membership?

Here’s yet another Astoria gym that wants to talk with you before telling you what their memberships, packages, or prices are. So, unfortunately, finding out more is done by contacting them.

Are There Any Drawbacks?

Hidden membership prices are never ideal, but since this gym is based around classes and personal training, expect them to offer a personalized program of classes, personal training, or both, that you can afford. Still, you can enjoy 5 free classes on them before you decide to sign up.

Who Should Work Out Here?

Beginner and experienced CrossFitters, as well as those who enjoy functional fitness in general. It’s also the best choice here if you want to be part of an exciting fitness community. If you don’t like intense workouts or group fitness classes, however, you’d be better off at a regular gym.
