Intermediate with Sarah Marchetti Gleim @ Physique 57
2109 Broadway Suite 206
Pleasant and professional
Really enjoyed class with Sarah M. this morning. She gave off an enthusiastic and approachable vibe from the moment she walked into the room - it instantly put me in a good mood and in a positive frame of mind to really be meticulous throughout class. The RYB guide about P57 instructors was right on the money about her - her cues are clear and the transitions between moves are well thought-out and easy to follow. I really liked the flow she'd put together (actually made me ENJOY working through the first set of thighs) - I truly appreciate it when its obvious that the instructor has choreographed the moves within each section to flow logically from one to the next (also makes the torture marginally more bearable since everything blends together nicely and feels a lot less fragmented and drawn out). She also changed up the thigh-dancing section - had us on our knees as usual, but in a straight line from the knees to the top of our head leaning back through the whole minute while doing arm movements (I've done this move often in pilates mat classes but not sure what its called - some sort of quad lean back maybe?) instead of hovering and bouncing up and down. This section is usually pretty standard from class to class, so I appreciated the switch (and holding steady in the lean back position made it harder to cheat!)
The class was small - maybe 7 people - and Sarah took advantage of this to make lots of corrections, EXPLAIN exactly why the correction needed to be made (so helpful!), and assisting people into deeper stretches. She also walked around to ask everyone's names. Overall, the class was just genuinely challenging and well put-together, and Sarah's demeanor and delivery was the perfect blend of professional and friendly/approachable. Great great class!
