SoulCycle with Ben Turshen @ SoulCycle

Didn't click...

Ben was my first SoulCycle instructor that I really didn't feel a click with. He reminded me of law school for some reason (a slightly negative intensity and seriousness) - which was weird, because I looked him up on the SC website after class and found out he's a lawyer!!! Maybe that's the reason for the lack of connection I felt? Maybe we're too similar? In any case, I was disappointed that I just wasn't feeling the love, enthusiasm, fun, or happiness from Ben that I have gotten out of every single other Soul class to date.
That said, I was planning to take another class of his before writing this review, because I wanted to be fair. But then the next 615 am class with Ben as the instructor came around and I just didn't want to wake up that early and risk it not being fun...so I bailed. Very rare for me. I imagine Ben has a lot of devotees that really dig his style and connect with him, but if you prefer a little more warmth and bubbliness, he might not be your guy.
The class itself was quite challenging. A lot of fast paced runs out of the saddle with low resistance, which always hurt my knees a little, and quite a bit more choreography than I expected. He was adamant about the class being very exact with their cadence and the beat, but he was sometimes off the beat himself. That kind of bugged me. More serious rap than pop, though, which was actually pretty fun.
Ben is clearly knowledgeable, in shape, serious about what he does, etc. I will try again at some point and see if we click a little better - maybe it was just a weird day for me or something - but I don't know. When all was said and done, I got a great workout and a good sweat, I just didn't feel that great about it.

@BoutFit - I really think you should try him one more time!! I respect anyone's review, of course, but I absolutely love Ben T's classes and think he is incredible (and I know he geniunely cares for his riders)- I think if you give him one more chance, you will be pleased!

Totally agree with trying him one more time. He's really something special and so passionate about what he does. His classes at USQ are especially fun because it's always a packed house. I myself have never flaked on a Ben T. class and have followed him to every Soul location on the east coast. He's worth it, you'll see!

Thanks @LegitFit and @spngrlNYC - I will definitely take your comments to heart and will give Ben T another try! Am hoping I'll need to do a complete re-write of my review.

Ugh, I agree with you on this. Personality wise, not happening. Didn't love the music, and he really didn't have good moves. I wouldn't go back . Save the money for Charlee, String, Janet ;)
