Dance Party with Joey Gonzalez @ Barry's Bootcamp

135 W. 20th St.

If You Put "Dance Party" in the Title of Your Class, I Will Obviously Come.

I'm always up for a party-themed class. This one was superfun, prop-tastic, and full of goony moments. The best part: it's on Saturday night. What could amp you up more for a night on the town? Love it.

So far I've been to 2 classes with Joey, and both have involved video cameras. Trend?

Dance Party, according to the Barry's website:

Why can't you work out and party at the same time? Oh yeah, YOU CAN! Velvet ropes, LIVE DJ, Barry's Bootcamp GOGO Dancers, non alcoholic antioxidant shots and a Disco Ball... Any questions?

Instructors galore.

Even before class started, I was super excited to see the number of instructors participating in Barry's dance time. I LOVE classes with multiple instructor bonus.

Oh look who came to play: Noah. With no shirt on.

Apparently, we were supposed to be squatting, and when Noah came in, I stopped, stood straight up, forgot where I was, and proceeded to straight-up stare at Noah's abs. Dude. Look at the picture below. He's a freak of nature.

Joey zoomed over to this newly-defunct class participant to wake me up. "HELLO, are you rubbernecking Noah??" "Why yes, yes I am."

Of course, for the rest of class Noah then winked at me and shot me with finger guns every time he danced by. LOL. Fair enough.

On the actual class

The class was a "Full Body" Barry's class with a few party favors thrown in.

- Three switch-offs between treadmill and floor - we didn't lose much time on the
transitions because the floor sections used minimal equipment.

- Lots of lunging and tons of multi-tasking exercises. Some up-and-down step
  work.

- We did a few partner exercises - which were super fun and set a great tone for
the class. On the treadmills, we took turns sprinting with our neighbor - the
resting partner cheered for the sprinting partner. On the floor, we pushed our
partner's legs to the ground repeatedly for an old-school abs sesh.

Party favors:

- Disco ball

- Velvet ropes

- Streamers

- Live DJ

- Glow bracelets

- Joey, Alicia, Noah, and some other guy dressed in silly 80s workout garb

- Shots - mid class they brought in a tray of acai antioxidant shots. They were
yummy and I forgot water, so any cold liquid was a blessing.

Sam! (I think he's the studio manager)

Sam was also part of the fun, wearing a tux and "collecting tickets". I have now realized that Sam was the goofy one next to me in my first class with Joey -[http://blog.rateyourburn.com/blog/post/2011/11/20/class-review-full-body-with-joey-gonzalez-barry-s-bootcamp.aspx (the one pushing my up button and yelling "take it off!!!")]

Sam's personality is so different in and out of class that it took me weeks to realize it was the same person. I'd love to see him be so goofy and happy when he's checking people in - sometimes he looks so serious and stressed out!
