Mixed with Sarah Marchetti Gleim @ Physique 57
161 Avenue of the Americas, Ground Floor
Thoughtful, focused, intense
Sarah has a more focused vibe than some of the other P57 instructors. It's clear that she takes her job very seriously, and so much of the way she runs a class -- from the frequent and personalized adjustments, to the thoughtful transitions between moves, to her inspiring mantras -- reflect that. In some ways, it ends up being a quieter class than some others at P57 -- more caring, less relentlessly peppy. Still, the energy is high and you get the feeling that Sarah is genuinely invested in pushing your body to its next level. She'll also show some true silliness from time to time (Olympics-themed thigh dancing!). It also seems that Sarah has a deep knowledge of physiology: she explains the reasons that we adjust certain things in our bodies, which really helps the adjustments stick with me for future classes. I brought a frequent P57 devotee to this class who said that Sarah's detailed explanations of form for abs radically improved and deepened her exercises.
I also appreciate that Sarah prioritizes stretching, something that occasionally feels like an afterthought with other instructors. It isn't that she spends more time stretching, but she makes sure you're present and concentrating.
Sarah's classes make me better for other P57 classes.
