I presume that most of the reviewers are female, so I decided to chime in from a male perspective (although with spin it usually doesn’t seem to make a difference). I think by now every Equinox spin enthusiast knows who is popular and who isn’t. I don’t understand the popularity of Gregg Cook. Sometimes I feel like his popularity is all corporate driven (i.e. have you seen the ridiculous video of him working out in his home that Equinox promotes. I mean really?). Anyway, I sometimes take his class just because our office has Thursday power lunch” which basically just means we get a longer lunch than usual. Well I try to take advantage of the extra time by working out and he is the Thursday spin teacher for both the noon and 1:00 pm class. But his class is boring. His music is so bland and more background noise than anything (he doesn’t actually use his music as part of the ride for those of you who may not know him, which is a pet peeve of mine). He just tells us that we are going to run 5 times for one minute or whatever the routine is that day. I mean I can basically just go on a bike and force myself to go hard for one minute intervals (of course I won’t, which is why I find myself going to his class). And he always finds the need to lecture us that going really fast on the bike or being out of the saddle too long is horrible for you and your body will be destroyed (ok I added that last part, I don’t think he ever said it will destroy you). Well speak for yourself buddy! My wife and I (my wife is an orthopedic surgeon) have been spinning for over 15 years and even though I am a member of Equinox we often find ourselves at Soul Cycle shelling out dough because we want those fast sprints. If someone does have week joints then they can modify, but I take offense at you telling me what my body should and shouldn’t do. I never sign up for a bike ahead of time because I think I subconsciously am hoping I won’t get a bike. Well so far I have never seen him completely fill the room so what is all the fuss about over his class? Feel free to comment because I really do want to know.
